NCUI organized recently a two day training programme for more than 40 Kendriya Vidyalaya School Teachers (primarily Economics/Commerce teachers of 10th-12th standard) at NCCE, Delhi this week.
Inaugurating the program, Major Harsh Kumar stressed the importance of teachers in moulding the career of children. He urged the teachers to make their children aware of the rich cultural heritage of the cooperative movement.
Harsh Kumar also drew the attention of the trainees to some of the remarkable achievements of the cooperative movement like milk and green revolutions.
Speaking on the occasion, N. Satya Narayana. Chief Executive, NCUI highlighted the achievements of cooperative movement in various areas of socio-economic activities. He said the cooperative business model is strong, and is people-centric. He also threw light on the significant contribution of Gandhi in strengthening the cooperative movement.
In her remarks, Ms Sunita Rai, Asst Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan emphasised upon the importance of cooperative learning in the schools. Dr V.K. Dubey, Director, NCCE threw light on the important initiatives taken by NCUI in popularizing cooperative education in schools, colleges and universities.
The training program covered important topics like cooperative thoughts, management and registration of cooperative societies, youth entrepreneurship, career opportunities in cooperatives, etc.
A study tour was conducted for the participants to see the functioning of Saraswat Cooperative Bank. Ms Mallika Kumar, Associate Professor, Shri Ram College of Commerce, and Ivjyot Singh, Program Officer, ICA-AP were the key resource persons.

The program was inaugurated by Yashpal Singh, Dy Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Jaipur Region. In his inaugural address, Singh emphasized on the need for all-round personality development of the students, instead of merely focusing on academic study.
Laying stress on building up of character of the students, he said cooperative principles and values in this regard can help students a lot. The participants were taken for a study visit to Bilwa PACS located on the outskirts of Jaipur, which is one of the successful PACs in Rajasthan.
The teachers participating in both the programs suggested cooperative exhibitions should be held in schools, and parents should be sensitized to the importance of cooperatives as a career.
The teachers expressed their desire to encourage students to take up project work in cooperatives, and also showed interest in guiding students to form mock cooperatives in schools.
