NCUI: Beating Corona, NCCE conducts Certificate Course on Taxation

In an attempt to preserve its relevance as a training institution in the changed context, National Centre for Cooperative Education of NCUI has just introduced the 4 week certificate course on financial accounting and taxation.

The NCCE has designed the course with a view to making the employees of the cooperative sector familiar with the taxation laws and regulations, says a press release.

With changing times and requirements of the cooperative sector, the Centre constantly designs need-based training programs to enable cooperatives to be more professional and relevant.

Starting from the academic year 2020-21 NCCE has introduced a number of such courses in its training calendar. One such program is the 4-weeks Certificate Course on “Financial Accounting & Taxation.

However, since 24th March’20 our nation had been under lockdown due to the COVID 19 pandemic and hence NCCE conducted online training programs and webinars on many relevant topics.

Cooperators from all over the country enthusiastically attended these online programs and found them to be very effective. Hence, NCCE launched this program online from 11 June – 10 July, 2020 in which 68 participants from various states of India & 5 from Nepal participated.

They are working in the accounting/finance & taxation departments of their respective societies, a few management students of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidylaya Sonipat also joined this course to use this lockdown period productively. This course equipped the participants in preparing books of accounts and financial statements (manual & electronic), ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws viz. registration, payment of taxes, filing of various statutory & regulatory returns etc. The course also covered the basic concepts of cooperative ideology & management to help participants understand the working of cooperatives.

The programme was conducted on CISCO Webex platform. 2 hours sessions were conducted daily (Monday to Friday) from 11 am to 1 pm in the form of lecture(s), discussions, Q&A, small exercises, daily assignments etc. Soft copies of reading materials & assignments were regularly shared with the participants. At the end of the course an online examination was taken after which the certificate was awarded to the successful participants.

The course was coordinated by Mrs. Sandhya Kapoor, Dy. Director, NCCE & the core faculty was Anurag Dang, Asst. Director (Finance), NCUI who is a Chartered Accountant.

It is noteworthy that NCCE has been showing the way to other cooperatives by conducting online training programs during the present crisis being faced by the world. Approximately 28 online training programs for various sectors of cooperatives have been conducted including a 1-month Certificate Course in Accounting & Taxation, read the press release.

The release says “These programs are being conducted on 2 video conferencing platforms viz. Cisco Webex and Zoom. The programs are also being redesigned regularly so that participants are able to comprehend the subject matter well. The outreach of these online training events is also better which is proved by the fact that more than 1500 participants have already been trained since April, 2020 till date.”

COVID 19 enforced the transformation of India into “Digital India” and we are glad to report that NCCE has contributed into making Sahakari Shiksha go digital, said the CE of NCUI N Satyanarayana.
