NCCT Board meets first time after the de-link

National Council of Cooperative Training (NCCT) held its first governing council meeting after the controversial “De-link” from the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) in Krishi Bhawan on Wednesday. It was chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh himself, underlining the importance of this meeting.

The NCCT Board meeting – second after its reconstitution and first after its delinking from NCUI was attended by several worthies like Union Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala, Shobhana K Pattanayak, Secretary and Upama Srivastava Additional Secretary in the Agriculture Ministry from the Ministry side.

Several prominent cooperators from states and representatives from NABARD and NITI Aayog also participated in the meeting, indicating union minister Radha Mohan Singh’s effort to make NCCT a truly representative body.

Prominent cooperators were Sahakar Bharati President Jyotindrabhai Mehta, Patron Satish Marathe, Working Women’s Forum Chief, Jaya Arunachalam, Senior Advocate V.P.Singh, Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank Chairman Dan Singh Rawat, Subhash Chandra Mandge and others.

Indian Cooperative has learnt that there were discussions held on several issues with a special focus on improving the module of cooperative training in the country. It also discussed budgetary requirements of NCCT, among other things.

Readers would recall the passing an order the Agriculture Ministry delinked NCCT from NCUI earlier.  NCUI, meanwhile is making an effort to seek a stay of this order and has therefore appealed the matter in the High Court. The next date for hearing is 25 July.

V P Singh, one of the participants in NCCT meeting on Wednesday represented NCUI in the court. There is a murmur in the NCUI corridors that it was Singh who botched up NCUI’s case during the hearing of the matter in the high court last month.
