As the nomination for ICA Board election draws close there appears to emerge a consensus among Indian cooperators that the country should send only one candidate and that a strong massage of united house should go around the world.
Talking to Indian Cooperative, National Cooperative Union of India President Mr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav said “At this stage I can assure you of the fact that there would be only one candidate from the country. We want to send strong message to the world that we practice what we preach i,e cooperation among cooperators.”
ICA Board elections are scheduled for November in Cape Town. N P Patel, the Chairman of IFFCO has already filed his nomination. NCUI President, yet another hopeful is yet to file his nomination.
To a question on nomination Mr Chandra Pal Singh said “Filing nomination would amount to committing oneself to contest. We will have another round of meeting with IFFCO to finally arrive at a conclusion.
NCUI President further added that he had a meeting with IFFCO MD Mr U S Awasthi in which Mr Awasthi requested NCUI for its support. Awasthiji’s argument,Mr Yadav added was that since earlier the Board was represented by IFFCO’s late Chairman Mr Jakhar its candidature should be supported.
“We are seized of the matter and a decision would be taken sooner than later. There are many cooperators whom I consulted want me to fight but I would not insist if IFFCO persists”, NCUI President added
G N Saxena, Director of cooperative relation at IFFCO said” It was indeed gracious of Chandra Palji to underline the importance of consensus candidature. Since we have been representing the Board we have sought his as well as others’ support.”
IFFCO has largest number of vote share from India. Of the total 25 votes in India it is custodian of 12.
