Good works perturb vested interests: Patjoshi

Sanjib Patjoshi, IG rank police officer who is currently Director of the prestigious institute VAMNICOM has a different take on the matter. He says it was his service mandate- the victim in the case being a woman. I called the lady in question to my office and informed her that along with me several other staff members have received an anonymous letter that besmirches her character.

As a director as well as an IPS officer it was my job to lodge a police complaint and so I forwarded the letter to the local police station. Several sections of IT Act were involved such as morphing, downloading obscene materials from internet, photoshopping etc.

Reacting to the charge of Chattopadhyay that he instigated the woman to snitch to the police on him as the lady was a temporary staff and thus amenable to the Director’s pressures, Patjoshi said Chattopadhyay has no idea as to how the police investigation is done. The victim is asked if she suspects anybody and it is her right to name the one she suspects.

“Also she is not a temporary staff and was in fact Chattopadhyay’s personal staff. It is a fact that she was being harassed by Chattopadhyay as due to some medical problem she might been unpunctual in her duties once in a while. I transferred her to a different department when the matter worsened further between the two”, said the Director.

Reacting to charge of non-academic style of functioning Chattopadhyay leveled against him, Patjoshi said he (Chattopadhayay) is a professor while I am not but I have published six articles since I joined and he has written not a word. How can he challenge my academic credentials; I have passed out from IIT Kanpur and IIM Banglore. I have also done MBA from the USA and have been awarded distinguished “Alumni of IIT Kanpur”. CSR had given me the “Best CEO Award”.  And Chattopadhyay has the gall to underrate my credentials, Patjoshi reacted angrily.

Whenever you do good things vested interests get perturbed; this is the law of nature; I stopped many of the hanky-pankies on the campus leading to all kinds of charges against me. I stopped the outstation training programmes of Chattopadhya as I received complaints from participants there was no training but only merry-making and sight-seeing. He had been to Ladakh where he hardly conducted any training programs as reported to me by the participants, Patjoshi said.

Patjoshi further said they are objecting to ATM and other vends such milk booth or vegetable stalls that I got opened on the campus. Tell me what is wrong in that. All campuses-IIT, IIM, JNU and even the US Universities have basic facilities on the campus. A few of our students got injured in the accidents while crossing road to go to ATM and then I decided to make these basic facilities available on the campus itself.

And the most important thing is these service providers are paying us rent and are not outsiders but our own staff. Even the booths have been taken from a government cooperative. I have got Honesty and Integrity Award in 2011 from IIT Kanpur yet they have the audacity to accuse me of corruption, wondered a livid Director.

On the charges of his obsession with his “police ” background, Patjoshi laughed and said that who is Chattopadhya to question me. I follow IPS Uniform Rule and I am entitled to a yellow-beckon car and a police flag. But I have never misused my IPS connection. I am neither an officer of Maharashtra Cadre nor ever worked in the state, Patjoshi added.
