Every village needs a co-op: Dr Dinesh

The apex body of cooperatives National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) had organized a seminar on “Cooperatives” at Haryana Central University recently.

This Programme was inaugurated by Haryana Central University Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.C. Kuhaad. In his inaugural remarks he said cooperatives were doing a wonderful job and their contributions could not be overlooked.

He referred to Dr. Kurien, (Father of White revolution) whose contribution in the dairy sector was unforgettable, he said. The English word cooperative derived from a combination of 11 alphabets and this was cooperative, he said.

NCUI Vice president Bijendra Singh emphasized the importance of Self help groups and said with their help people could stand on their own feet in the community.

On this occasion HARCOFED Managing Director Poonam Nara gave the details of training programmes and said such programmes promote the idea of cooperative and therefore they should be organized in each district of the state.

National Cooperative Union of India Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dinesh laid emphasis on the fact that in each village there must be cooperative organization. Cooperatives are the only solution for the growing population and lack of resources in the country, Dr. Dinesh remarked.

Elaborating his point NCUI Chief Executive said that in economies which are starved of resources and have teeming population, only a judicious course such as that of model has been found to be effective.

Several participants from across the country had come to participate in this seminar.The programme ended with a vote of thanks from V K Dubey, NCCE head.
