Bijendra Singh-a well known cooperator in the country has made it again to the Chairmanship of Delhi State Cooperative bank in an election held on Tuesday in Delhi. Singh was elected unanimously along with his panel of 11 Directors.
There was just one opponent in one of the constituencies and even there our panel candidate polled three times more vote than him, said a victorious Singh who was elected for 6th times in a row.
“With this Board this is my 6th term but in actuality this is my 8th term as Chairman”, said Bijender recounting his experience of 1992 and 1993 when he won but an administrator was imposed leading to protracted legal tangle.
As soon as the Returning Officer Mr Meena announced Bijender Singh victorious, NCUI President Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav accompanied by his loyalist Biscomuan Chairman Sunil Singh rushed to greet him.
“I have come all the way from Patna to greet Bijender bhaiyya” said Sunil after mailing photograph of the victory to this correspondent. Enthused by the results he also claimed “no one can match the leadership quotient of the troika”- meaning Chandra Pal, Bijender and he himself.
A jubilant Bijender told Indian Cooperative that he aims to take the organization to still greater heights. “Last time we earned a profit of Rs 31 crore and this year we aim to achieve 41 crore or even more.”
Recounting the history Singh said “when I had taken over as the Chairman Delhi State Cooperative Bank in 2001 it was reeling under an annual loss of Rs 27 crore. We not only made up the losses following year but also earned profit, Sing said patting himself on the back.”
Bijender Singh is the Chairman of NCCF and also a Vice-Chairman of the apex cooperative body NCUI. Known as a close friend of NCUI President he is on the board of several national level Cooperative Federations including Nafed and Kribhco.
Known for his brash style of speech he is still loved by them who know him closely. They vouch of his straightforwardness.
