Deepening bond between NCUI and Mauritius

NCUI and Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Govt. of Mauritius, Soomilduth Bholah signed an MoU for Cooperation in the field of Cooperatives & related areas at the NCUI headquarters on Monday.

Earlier, the delegation from Mauritius led by Soomilduth Bholah went to the Agriculture Ministry and signed an MoU which will enable the two countries to collaborate in this vital sector.

Later, they visited the IFFCO headquarters and met its Joint Managing Director Rakesh Kapoor, Tarun Bhargawa and other senior officials.

Readers would note that there is an Agreement between India and Mauritius on working together in the cooperative sector based on a resolution passed by the Union Cabinet last year. The agreement between the two countries will be for the duration of five years after which it will automatically stand extended for another five years.

Dr Chandra Pal Singh, President NCUI also made it the event though a bit late, despite his preoccupation with the happenings in the Samajwadi Party.

Speaking on the occasion Yadav said “In India cooperatives are playing an important role in doubling the income of farmers and National Economy. Indian Cooperative movement is the largest movement in the world, he underlined.

He informed the Mauritian delegation about the role of NCUI in promoting the cooperative education & training through the network of 20 Cooperative Training Institutions of NCCT and National Centre for Cooperative Education.

In his speech, Bholah said “Mauritius relations with India gained momentum in 1977 when Moraji Desai was the Prime Minister.”Highlighting the cooperative movement of his country, he said Mauritius uses the co-op model in eradicating poverty and generating employment opportunities.

He further said his country promotes youth participation in cooperatives but these institutions have yet to be computerized.

Besides Bholah Mauritian delegation included Jagdishwar Goburdhun, GOSK, High Commissioner, New Delhi, D.Gaoneadry, Acting Permanent Secretary, Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Dr. Manoj Nardeosingh, Assistant Secretary General of African Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), New Delhi.

A presentation on Indian Cooperative Movement and activities of NCUI was made by Ritesh Dey, Deputy Director (International Relations) of NCUI on the occasion.

The meeting was also attended by Vice-Presidents of NCUI Dr. Bijender Singh, Governing Council Member V.P.Singh, ICA A-P Regional Director Balu Iyer, N Satyanaryana and all senior officers of NCUI & NCCT except Mohan Mishra who was conspicuous by his absence.
