Co-ops don’t fall under RTI: NCUI

Replying to a media query on the occasion of the inauguration of NCUI Haat, Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, former President of NCUI said that co-operatives are answerable to their members and not to the general public.

“RTI has come today but there is a provision of members inspecting the documents and asking questions related to the co-op they belong to, since the very beginning when the co-op act was formulated”, stated the NCUI leader.

The response came when media men wanted to know that one third of the Indian population being part of the co-op movement, should not co-ops be accountable and fall under the RTI Act.

NCUI leaders said that anybody who has no connection to the co-op body has no right to know the details. Why should one be interested if he is not a member, said cooperators hinting at the ulterior motive of such individuals. They had examples of frivolous PILs in their minds.
