The apex national co-operative body NCUI held a zonal conference in Chandigarh last Saturday in which at least four Governing Council members led by its President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav participated.

Speaking before the well-attended meeting, Chandra Pal said cooperative alone has the potential to uplift the poor in the country. Citing the role of cooperatives in various fields from agriculture to finance to housing the Rajya Sabha member exhorted all to strengthen the movement.

NCUI Vice-President Bijender Singh also addressed the gathering as did the Punjab GC member Gurupat Kamat.

Several cooperators as well as the trainees of ICM were part of the audience. There were also several Additional Registrars of co-ops as well as the chairmen and MDs of co-ops present in the meeting.

Taking on board all shades of cooperative opinions NCUI has started this series of zonal conference in all the four zones of the country. Last October, the East Zone conference was held in Sikkim. The South and West Zone cooperative conferences would take place in Bangalore and Goa respectively.

The one day session also camp up with several recommendations. The following recommendations would be presented before the national cooperative Congress.

”No govt interference in the functioning of cooperatives, granting tax exemption to cooperatives, formulating a training policy for cooperatives by all the states, enhancement of women participation.”

The Cooperative Congress is slated for Feb 2018, said NCUI CE N.Satyanarayan.
