G H Amin, Vice President of National Cooperative Union of India visited Mauritius on the invitation of the Mauritius govt on the occasion of national cooperative conference organized from March 14 to 18.
Talking to Indian Cooperative Amin said that the Business and Enterprise Minister Mr Jung Bahadur Sitaraman invited me to the cooperative conference as they wanted to learn from the Indian experience. Cooperative movement is in nascent state in the country with only about 1000 cooperative credit societies, he added.
Amin shared Indian experience with the delegates who comprise of all the heads of cooperatives of the country. I told them about our success stories in the field of dairy cooperative, agricultural cooperative, sugar and other sectors.
Amin also had meeting with the top officials of National Mauritian Bank as they wanted to understand how these credit cooperatives could be regulated. I told them that RBI does not jump in all situations in our country and the issues better be resolved at the level of cooperative Registrar.
He expressed satisfaction on the fact that the Indian example has become source of inspiration for other countries and they want to know how India has developed such as strong cooperative movement.
Readers would recall that India has about 25 crore people associated with cooperatives. From Mauritius to USA, it represents an example a country of strong cooperative movement.
