NCUI’s 60th Cooperative Week inauguration was marked by the conspicuous absence of leading cooperative federations of the town. The function was kicked off on Thursday in NCUI Campus in Delhi.

IFFCO-the largest cooperative with about 40 thousand societies as its member, did not participate. Another fertilizer cooperative federation KRIBHCO also did not bother to take note of the cooperative week.

Though Chandra Pal Singh Yadav is also the Vice-Chairman of KRIBHCO he was participating in the capacity of apex cooperative organization’s President.

Another notable absence was NAFED. Its Chairman Bijendra Singh is though busy in Delhi Assembly elections, non-participation by its MD or any of the Board members was noticed. Even NCCF gave this celebration a miss.

This sentiment was also echoed by the newly-made Governing Council member from Bihar (BISCOMAUN) Sunil Singh who lamented the absence of representatives of leading cooperative federations.

Biscomaun Chairman also resented to the use of English as medium of speech. “How could you be understood if you speak English with your members who are either farmers or fishermen”, he lambasted.

B K Mishra , MD of FISCOPFED and M L Khurana, MD of housing cooperative federation had spoken in English amid gathered assembly.

On absence of notable cooperative federation, one of the cooperators aptly quipped “we complain of govt not taking us seriously but here is a case where cooperatives do not take cooperatives seriously.
