Interacting with the media after a gap NCUI President Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav who rushed from the closing monsoon session of Parliament, said NCUI has become a co-petitioner with the govt on the 97th Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court.
”The much-touted amendment has been a non-starter as the Gujarat High Court stayed its implementation. The matter is pending in the Supreme Court and the NCUI has made up its mind to take the bull by the horns. We would fight side by side with the govt advocates as we who know the subject cooperative the best”.
Dr. Chandra Pal Singh further said that since 4th Five Year Plan, cooperatives have been totally neglected in the planning process. He also said that every year’s budget ignores the contribution of cooperatives.
He admitted that many of the cooperative societies have become defunct due to lack of professional management. He said that National Council for Cooperative Training organised 2315 training programmes during the year exceeding its targets of 1500 programmes so as to professionally equip the cooperative staff.
Through NCUI’s effort, the Agriculture Minister has written a letter to HRD Minister for a specific chapter on cooperatives subject in the school syllabus. He also said considering few universities which are offering Degree Courses in Cooperatives, NCUI has started a certificate course in Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila University, Sonepat and has also signed MOU with Central University, Mahendragarh to start a certificate course in cooperatives.
”I have requested the govt to spare a word in praise of the cooperative model in budgetary speech or in the 15th August speech but govt has not bothered. A few words would go a long way in encouraging crores of people associated with the movement”, he said.
The MDs of various national level federations like National Federation of Fishermen’s Cooperatives, National Federation of Labour Cooperative, National Federation of Urban Cooperative Banks, National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories were present on the occasion. Around 50 media persons were present during the press meet.
