NCDC’s workshop on Duck Farming today; eminent experts to participate

NCDC is organizing a national workshop on ‘Entrepreneurship Development Through Duck Farming’ on 22nd July 2020, in which Manipur Cooperative Minister Nemcha Kipgen will deliver the inaugural address.

The webinar has many eminent speakers such as C R Garg, Secretary Coop, Govt of Goa, Ms Bandana Preyashi, Secretary Coop, Govt of Bihar, Tinku Biswal, Secretary AH, Govt of Kerala.

Sharing the details of the workshop NCDC MD Sundeep Nayak said that several experts of the field have been invited to make the workshop a success. The special address on the occasion will be given by Dr. B N Tripathi, DDG (AS), ICAR and the Keynote address will be delivered by N N Sinha, Secretary (RD), GOI, underlined Nayak.

The workshop is being organized in partnership with the Ministry of Rural Development, Govt of India, Indian Council for Agricultural Research, DARE, Govt of India, Govt of Bihar, Goa, Kerala and Manipur.

Emphasizing the importance of the workshop, one of the experts said to Indian Cooperative, “Indigenous ducks of our country constitute more than 90% of the total duck population and the second largest species contributing towards egg production in India. Duck rearing is still in the hands of poor rural farmers, who depend mainly on ducks for their livelihood and employment”.

“Duck farming occupies an important position in India. They form about 10% of the total poultry population in India and contribute about 7-8% of the total egg produced in the country. Indeed, it’s important that the NCDC is focusing on this area”, they said.

Besides, Diksha Mandavi, SA, NCDC, Dr Nibedita Nayak, Scientist, CCARI-ICAR, Goa and Dr Sunil Giri, Pr Scientist, CARI-ICAR Bhubaneswar will offer presentations on the occasion. Several farmers will also share their experiences. There would also be a Question and Answers session.

The program will be live-streamed on Facebook and Youtube and participants will be connected through the Zoom app. Mukesh Kumar, ED, NCDC will anchor the proceedings and Dr S K Tehedur Rahman, DD, NCDC move a vote of thanks.
