NCDC signs MoU with S-VYASA to boost wellness centres through co-ops

NCDC has joined hands with Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA), the unique Global Yoga University of Bengaluru to give a big boost to setting up of Yoga Wellness Centres and Naturopathy Facilities across the country through cooperatives.

Both the organizations entered into an Memorandum of Understanding to pursue these goals through cooperative societies. Speaking on the occasion the Union Minister for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Nayak said that the arrangements made by the two premier institutions are timely and would benefit Yoga to rural areas.

Nayak observed that his Ministry supports such initiatives aimed at strengthening efforts in Indian health systems, including Yoga which is a global movement.

Present on the occasion, Shri Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare complimented NCDC on the fact that a new dimension has been added by NCDC to expand the welfare programmes for farmers under the NCDC Ayushman Sahakar scheme he had launched two months back.

Rupala said that Yoga Wellness centres also make good business models for cooperatives to strengthen healthcare delivery systems to rural areas.

Sundeep Nayak, MD of NCDC said that Ayushman Sahakar launched on 19th October 2020 with an outlay of Rs.10,000 crore, aimed at extending financial support to cooperatives. The scheme has a comprehensive and holistic approach to finance healthcare infrastructure and services.

“It covers hospitals, healthcare infrastructure, medical education, nursing education, paramedical education, drugs manufacturing, digital health, laboratory services, health insurance and Indian traditional medical systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy”, MD stated.

The MoU has been signed to help develop further the healthcare services and Yoga education and training across the states, stated NCDC MD.

Guruji Nagendra, Padma Shri Awardee for his immense contribution in Yoga, is the Chancellor of S-VYASA. He said that a new dimension would be explored through cooperatives across the country. Technical might of S-VYASA and financial strength of NCDC would be an ideal combination to support Yoga Centres.

The MoU also aims to promote skilling of students or alumni of S-VYASA through internship opportunities offered by NCDC under its scheme Sahakar Mitra.
