NCDC reconstitutes its Council; nominates Singh, Joshi & Mehta

The cooperative lender NCDC (National Cooperative Development Corporation), through a Gazette notification dated July 1, has reconstituted both its Board of Management and its General Council.

Some of the new faces to find birth in the NCDC scheme of things are Jyotindra Mehta, Nafcub President, Uday Joshi, General Secretary of Sahakar Bharati, Dhananjay Singh BJP’s Cooperative Cell leader (who has replaced Satish Marathe in BoM), among others.

There is an induction of more than five members from the BJP fold, which means the ruling party is eager to have its agenda take precedence in the NCDC affairs, quipped a Delhi based co-operator.

While IFFCO MD, Dr U S Awasthi has been retained in the General Council, Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav will continue till he is the President of NCUI. Since the decks are cleared for the NCUI elections, the new president would replace Dr. Chandra Pal Singh in course of time.

The BoM of NCDC is chaired by the Secretary of Agriculture Ministry and has about 13 members including five senior officers from the Ministry. Chairmen of a few national level co-op federations such as Chairman of GCMMF (owner of Amul) and Andhra’s Markfed are also there in the list. Dhananjay has replaced Marathe in the list.

The General Council of the National Co-operative Development Corporation comprises 51 members and is chaired by the Union Agriculture Minister led by Narendra Singh Tomar. This body is a mix of officials as well as co-operators of eminence.

Reconstituted after every five years, the new team comprises people belonging to different categories. In the category of persons having special expertise in the field of agricultural cooperative development, Dr Uday Vasudev Joshi, Gangadhar Pawar, Dr Ram Kailash Yadav and Dhananjay Singh figure.

In the category of representation from national level co-op federations, Dr U.S. Awasthi, MD IFFCO, Jyotindra Mehta, President Nafcub, K.K. Ravindran, MD of Agricultural and Rural Development Banks; Federation and Smt Kapilaben Vankar, President, Self Employed Women’s Association figure.

Obviously, the name of MD of NCDC, Sundeep Nayak figures in both the bodies- BoM and General Council. The notification has been issued by the Central Registrar on behalf of the govt of India.
