NCCF: Race for Chairmanship begins

Virender-singh-nccf-5001The announcement of the NCCF election date has triggered a veritable race to become delegates and directors. The election is scheduled for February 6th which means there is less than a month left for aspirants to mobilize support for themselves.

The former Chairman Vijendra Singh who had recently flown from Mumbai to Delhi to meet cooperative leaders including the NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav said to Indian Cooperative that he is a candidate from the western zone which encompasses states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa etc.

Though I did meet the NCUI President he too busy with NCUI’s affairs and I thought to raise the matter in my next trip, said Singh whose last term was not ideal as the board was constantly at loggerheads with some babus of the Ministry.

The Board was superceded against which the cooperative leadership went to the court- a development extensively reported in these columns.

Though the election is yet far way, talks of who would be the next Chairman has begun to do the rounds. The NCCF bye laws prohibit third term for Chairmanship and many Indian Cooperative talked to, rule out the possibility of Virendra Singh occupying the chair once again.

But others argue since he did not complete his full term second time as it was superceded he has every right to be in the race. Vijendra himself refused to comment when Indian Cooperative tried to know his take on the issue.

The name of Vishal Singh as one of the wannabe directors is also doing the rounds though it is too early to predict. There are about 67-68 delegates who have to elect about five directors.

NCCF Board has about 11 directors; in which five is elected, three is from the government and three each from NAFED, NCUI and NCDC. Managing Director is also member of Board but has no voting rights.
