Nafed: With no bail-out in sight, Board discusses business plans
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Even as Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh is vowing to strengthen cooperatives the pride of cooperative Nafed is reeling under a serious crisis with no sign of the promised government support materializing in the foreseeable future.

Meeting under a cloud of uncertainty the NAFED Board last week deliberated on ways and means of reviving the agri-cooperative. They held discussions covering the NAFED bazzar, mobile van, revival of the organization and various other things.

The Board Meeting was attended by Bijendra Singh, Sunil Kumar Singh, Dr. Chandra Pal Singh, Govt nominee Ashok Thakur, Dileepbhai Sanghani and other directors except the Chairman V R Patel who was conspicuous by his absence. The meeting lasted two hours.

The NAFED bazaar has been started to sell products like gold tea and pulses to make the NAFED a profit making cooperative again.

On the issue of NAFED’s properties lying in Wazirpur, Delhi and Mumbai, Govt Nominee Thakur told Indian Cooperative ”we have decided to upgrade technology in our Wazirpur store and to use our land in Mumbai for generating income. “

The Board members also discussed NAFED Bail-out-package to be released by the government to enable the cooperative to meet its financial obligations.

Several other issues that were raised in the board included implementing the 7th Pay Commission for the employees.
