Nafed offers market to Arunachal Kiwis; Riiju receives it in Delhi

Agri co-op NAFED took a step forward in providing market linkages to the certified organic kiwi growing farmers of Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh. The event to mark this farmer-friendly move, was attended, among others by Kiren Rijju, Union Minister, Law & Justice,  along with Kailash Choudhary, MoS Agriculture.

The first consignment of organic kiwi from the region was dispatched to Delhi on 21st November, 2021 for promotion and marketing. Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Tage Taki flagged off the consignment to mark the beginning of a new initiative for the benefit of the kiwi growers of Arunachal Pradesh.

On arrival of the consignment at Delhi, Kiren Rijju, Union Minister, Law & Justice,  along with    Kailash Choudhary, MoS Agriculture launched this nutrient rich delicious fruit at Delhi Haat on 27th November, 2021.

Those present on the occasion included P.K.Swain, Additional Secretary- Agriculture, Sanjeev K. Chaddha  MD NAFED, Naresh Kumar, Chief Secretary, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Pankaj K.Prasad, AMD NAFED  along with several officials from GoI & NAFED.

The initiative will help in enhancing the livelihood of Kiwi farmers in Arunachal Pradesh and boost the trade of Kiwi outside the state, said Nafed MD Sanjeev K Chadha to Indian Cooperative.

The launch event was followed by a live cooking session for the guests, during which recipes of Kiwi based dishes were demonstrated followed by sample tasting by the esteemed guests.

NAFED strives for empowerment of farmers by providing them market linkages and channelling their produce directly to consumers for better price realisation, claimed its officials quoting the examples of J&K apple and Bihar’s Makhana.
