Nafed: Has package fallen prey to bureaucratic delay!

Even amidst news of Nafed earning handsome operational profit on purchases of pulses and oilseeds there is no news yet on its revival package. More than two months have passed since the two senior leaders from Gujarat Nafed Vice-Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani and NCUI Vice-Chairman G H Amin met the Union State Minister Parshottam Rupala who had ensured the presence of two of the top bureaucrats- Additional Secretary and Central Registrar in Delhi to know the status of the Nafed bail-out package.

In the meeting the two senior officials sounded sure of putting up the matter for the Cabinet approval next week. But there has been no news so far. Critics say it is bureaucrats’ way of delaying things unconscionably no matter if a Modi or a Yogi is at the helm.

Several cooperators wonder how a week can extend to 8 weeks that too when the babus had promised to do it fast before the Minister!

Meanwhile in an informal chat at the NCUI headquarters last week its President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav sounded optimistic and made light of the delay.

“It takes time as no objections as well as clearances from a host of departments are taken before it is put in the Cabinet for final approval”, underlined Chandra Pal explaining the procedure.

Chandra Pal also lauded the positive approach of the govt on the issue and in particular thanked the two ministers Radha Mohan Singh and Parshottam Rupala for reposing faith in the revival of Nafed.

No agency can match the network of Nafed when it comes to procuring agri produce. The large number of farmers get the return on their produce only through Nafed, Yadav reminded.
