Nafed: Govt nominee demands cancellation of tenders
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ashok Thakur, the Government nominee at Nafed is held by many as a habitual dissenter. He, however, feels vindicated by such a label and says it means I am able to disturb the vested interests. I will get many more tags as my fight against the vested interests heats up in course of time, he adds.

He says he is not against the revival package as such but one should also read the rule book before seeking any package. Not only in India but also elsewhere is revival package given to a new team. In the case of Nafed many persons who were in the old team and who left the co-op organization in ruins still continue. Ergo, I dissented.

Excerpts:

Respected V R Patel ji,

In my opinion the agenda no. 11 given by you is not worth approval. Even after warnings by different investigating agencies, inquiries and Government Authorities, the various factors brought in the knowledge which led to the current financial crisis of the NAFED still prevails.

Further it is ironical to note that the various office bearers of the Board of NAFED who are ultimately responsible for such situation of NAFED are still holding the critical positions of the all the executive bodies of the board.

I strongly suggest that before we expect any relief package from Government of India for revival of NAFED, the board should take a strong stand against the culprits of the NAFED. But unfortunately a single step has still not been taken by the board in the direction of the same.

Secondly as per my opinion ever since I joined as Government Nominee, the current stake holders of NAFED have made all the efforts in keeping the Government away from all the critical decision making processes even if the money related to GOI is involved. To refrain from this, I suggest having elaborate discussion on the revival agenda, conditions and negotiable points with the authorities of Government of India. The same may be brought before the boards.

This agenda may assign the chairman and MD the unwanted and unlimited power which can be misused in the coming time and is not even as per the provision of MSCS, Act 2002 and rules thereon. To take a vital decision about the same which may go wrong and then to further bring into the knowledge of board, will be of no use. So to avoid those situations I strictly suggest avoiding authorizing such unspecified powers to any authority in NAFED.

Ashok Thakur
