Gap widens between Nafed and Govt

All hell broke lose after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Friday approved the nomination of National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India Ltd. (NCCF) for procurement of oilseeds and pulses.

According to reliable sources  nafed is planning to fight govt  against the demolition of its monopolistic grip on procurement of agri produce.

Government on its part, has given loud and clear massage to Nafed that there are many agencies to do the job. Many see it as extension of stand off that persists between government and Nafed on bail out issue.

Readers may be aware that govt has withheld bail out package till Nafed amends its by laws and accept other conditions.

NAFED had monopoly in the procurement of oilseeds and pulses for more than 30 years. Barring 2 to 3 times it has always done business on loss for the government. Government version, according to the sources is that let us try other agencies and see if it leads to better results for the govt.

According to sources Nafed Chairman Vijender Singh is being pressurized to lodge protest with the Ministry.

NCCF is a national level consumer cooperative organization engaged in the supply support to the consumer cooperative and distributing agencies of consumer goods to the consumers. Its nomination as one of the agencies for procurement of oilseeds and pulses under PSS is not palatable to Nafed.
