Dr.M.L.Khurana, Managing Director, National Cooperative Housing Federation of India (NCHF) has been awarded D.Lit. Degree (National Development through Slum Cooperatives) by the Himachal Pradesh University.
This is perhaps the first instance in India that the prestigious D.Lit. Degree is awarded in cooperatives. Dr.Khurana, connected with NCHF for the last four decades has done many original works towards the development of cooperative movement.
Nearly 100 million slum dwellers spread over to 1743 cities and towns in India are denied of adequate access to affordable shelter, basic services and appropriate hygienic environment.
Adequately catering to their socio-economic development needs should engage our immediate attention in the larger interest of national development and integration-this was the theme of Khura’s D.Litt.
