Cooperative effort to clean Pune

The concept of rubbish dump is quite old in Western countries. On the outskirt of each residential localities there is rubbish heap where you can put rejected household items.

There is report from Pune that Swach cooperative has begun a drive to clean the city by erecting four such rubbish dumps in the town.

It is also learnt that the cooperative aims at many more such sheds where people can bury their rejected household items.

Swach is now planning to reach out to the corporate sector for help.

Ideally, the state should invest in setting up sorting centres, so that the waste-pickers have a proper space to do their job. The aim is to shield the waste-pickers, as people often complain about women sorting waste on roadsides or outside housing societies.
