Assocham bats for co-op farming

Indian industries’ association Assocham has called for cooperative farming  of small farms across the country. It has come to this conclusion through a recent study ” farm sector structural challenges of farm size needed for further successes in rural front ” as conducted by National sample survey organization.

This is the 70th round of survey undertaken. According to the study, most of bank loans are given only to farmers owning more than a hectare of farmland and small farmers are denied bank loans.

As a result of it, small farmers fall prey to greedy traditional moneylenders. The incidence of indebtedness among farmers is highest in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the study reveals.

The Assocham has expressed its concern over the situation and called it dangerous for a country that is still predominantly agricultural.
