Kerala Cooperative banks oppose govt ordinance

The cooperative banks have petitioned the Kerala High Court to strike down the  cooperative societies ordinance 2012  promulgated by the state government.

The ordinance seeks to  dissolve  the board  of directors of district cooperative banks and appoint  administrators  for managing the affairs of  these banks.

The cooperative banks  see the ordinance  not only as illegal and arbitrary but also as a  move aimed at  putting them under the authority of the government.

The petitioners have  submitted before the court that the present ordinance  goes against the high court order  upholding the pervious govt’s decision to give voting right to primary cooperative societies except agricultural credit societies and urban cooperative banks.
