Kribhco: Alka Jha is vigilance officer

India govt has decided to check dishonest and illegal things happening in various multi-state cooperative bodies in the country.  The central vigilance commission would have oversight of them to this end.

This explains the govt appointing Alka Jha to work as chief vigilance officer in Kribhco. The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved Jha’s appointment. Similar appointments are likely to be made soon for other multi-state cooperative institutions.

There have been several allegations of corruption in the working of some of the multi-state cooperative societies in the past.

According to official sources, bringing multi-state cooperative societies within the purview of the central vigilance commission would go a long way in checking irregularities and corruption in the cooperative sector.

The govt says the decision has followed abundant consultations with the ranking law officers but the cooperative leaders find the govt decision controversial because it amounts to a direct attack on the autonomy of the cooperative societies.
