Reiterating its commitment to farmers once again, the cooperative giant IFFCO contributed Rs one crore for the affected farmers and their families in the wake of furious flood which has claimed 224 lives so far in Gujarat.
The cheque was handed over to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani by IFFCO officials. Those present on the occasion included IFFCO Vice-Chairman Vitthal Radadiya’s son Jayesh Radadiya who happens to be a cabinet minister, IFFCO Kalol Unit head Deepak Inamdar, Sahakar Bharati President Jyotindra Mehta and its Vice-President Jitubhai Vyas.
Talking to Indian Cooperative Deepak Inamdar, Unit Head of IFFCO Kalol said “A day prior to the event IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi had called me to provide immediate help to the flood victims of Gujarat as farmers have suffered huge losses”. You know his commitment for people in such situations, he added.
IFFCO MD who is otherwise active on social media was, however, silent on the issue of donation-perhaps following the Indian tradition of not bragging about the good work that you do, explained a cooperator connected to IFFCO. But the IFFCO MD did wish Gujarat CM on his birthday on social media.
Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani thanked IFFCO for providing financial support for the flood victims and told the IFFCO delegation of the challenges being faced by the people.
Rupani also shared the photographs of the event on twitter and wrote “Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited has contributed Rs 1 crore in chief minister relief fund”.
The fertilizer cooperative had earlier provided relief materials worth Rs 1 crore for the flood victims of Tamil Nadu.
Talking to this correspondent Sahakar Bharati President Jyotindra Mehta who rushed from Delhi to become a part of the event thanked IFFCO for this gesture. “I am elated to note that the cooperative organization IFFCO has donated a relief cheque to the tune of Rs 1 crore in chief minister relief fund on Wednesday in Palanpur”.
“I appeal to all the Urban Cooperative Banks of Gujarat to contribute either in terms of relief material or money. Hope, they will do the needful soon”, said Mehta.
Readers would recall that Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is camping in Banaskantha district to oversee the relief and rescue operations by the administration. He has been camping in the flood-hit districts for several days.
