Agricultural Attaché to the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi Angelo de Queiro Mauricio along with Frank Oliveira visited Kalol to see the Nano Urea plant on Wednesday. IFFCO’s Marketing Director Yogendra Kumar accompanied them from Delhi.

It bears recall that IFFCO had signed an MoU last year with the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB), the national confederation of co-operatives of the country for setting up a Nano Urea Fertiliser Plant in Brazil with mutual collaboration.

The visiting team was welcomed by the Kalol Unit Head D G Inamdar. The latter took the delegation around and explained to it the process involved in the production of Nano Urea. Nano is increasingly catching the fancy of not only Indian farmers but also that of foreign farmers, explained IFFCO official Tarun Bhargava who was recently in Brazil making a presentation on Nano Urea at various forums.

The MoU between the two countries talks of “organizing educational visits; carrying out joint research and training activities; offering opportunities to exchange ideas and develop business relationships and last but not least “Setting up a Nano Urea Fertiliser Plant in Brazil with mutual collaboration”.

Excited about the visit, IFFCO MD Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted“Today, Agricultural Attaché to the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi, Mr. Angelo de Queiro Mauricio along with Mr. Frank Oliveira from @BrazilEmbassy visited world’s 1st #NanoUrea plant by #IFFCO in Kalol. The team was accompanied by Mr. @iffcoyogendra Marketing Director, IFFCO.”

In the next tweet, Awasthi said “Mr. @dginamdar Unit Head #IFFCO Kalol explained the process of making of #IFFCONanoUrea to Agricultural Attaché to the @BrazilEmbassy New Delhi, Mr. Angelo de Queiro Mauricio & his team. Mr. @iffcoyogendra Marketing Director, IFFCO was also present along with other officials.”

A few days back, during his trip, IFFCO Managing Director Dr. U S Awasthi laid the foundation stone of the biggest Nano Fertilizer Project at its Paradeep Unit located in Odisha in the presence of Unit Head Kirit Kumar J Patel and other officials.

Earlier, Nano Urea found a mention in the famous “PM’s Mann Ki Baat”, where he talked about it and called it a step in the direction of AatmaNirbhar Bharat.

Nano also found a mention in the Economic Survey placed in the House by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the last budget. “There is a need to explore options and promote the use of alternative fertilizers such as Nano Urea and organic fertilizer which protect the soil, are more productive, and contribute to higher nutrient use efficiency. The focus should be on the use of new technology including drones and Al-based decision support systems, reduction in the use of chemical fertilizers and use of low-cost organic inputs and supporting start-ups for innovations”, says the Survey.

Talking about the prospect of Nano Urea IFFCO MD Dr. U S Awasthi says “Research and development in agriculture & allied sectors can play a major role in the realization of sustainable agriculture practice that efficiently meets the objectives of nutritional security and improvement in farm income.
