IFFCO’s elections took a curious turn Wednesday evening when the number of vacancies and number of nominations matched each other perfectly! The list of candidates who filed nomination papers for the election was out on Wednesday evening.

Those elected unopposed include BS Nakai’s son Jagdeep Singh Nakai (Ex-MLA) and IFFCO’s former Director Pramod Kumar Singh’s nephew, Manvendra Singh. According to the list, there are five nominations for the same number of seats. All candidates stand elected unopposed. The results will be announced on 25th March.

A member of Akali Dal, Jagdeep Nakai switched to BJP fold recently. Manvendra is a congress leader as was his uncle Pramod Singh Chauhan.

Indian Cooperative talked to several Directors to know who is in the race for the Vice-Chairmanship. Though leaders were clueless, some said going by the seniority, Prahalad Singh from Haryana stands a fair chance. A few others did not discount the ambition of Nakai’s son Jagdeep Singh, who may throw himself in the race on the strength of his father’s credentials.

From Constituency No.1 which comprises Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir only one nomination was filed by IFFCO’s former Chairman BS Nakai’s son Jagdeep Singh Nakai (Ex-MLA). Whereas from the Constituency No. XI, only one candidate i.e. IFFCO’s former Director Pramod Kumar Singh’s nephew Manvendra Singh filed his papers.

From constituency XIV, three candidates filed papers including RAJFED, Administrator, Dinesh Kumar Singh (IAS), UCF Director Umesh Tripathi, and Madhya Pradesh Marketing Cooperative Federation, MD, Parikipandla Narahari (IAS).

On the last date of nomination, the IFFCO headquarters at Delhi witnessed huge crowds of supporters of candidates who filed nomination papers.

It bears recall that IFFCO lost two of its Board members– Chairman BS Nakai and Pramod Kumar Singh from Uttarakhand. IFFCO Director Raj Kumar Tripathy also succumbed to Covid but since he was a co-opted member, only two casual vacancies arose.

Sanjay Jha, Assistant Registrar of co-ops in the Delhi govt is the Returning office to oversee the election process.

The process of Scrutiny would start from 9:00 AM on March 24, 2022, i.e. today, in the “Election Office functioning in the Committee Room at 2nd Floor of the IFFCO Sadan. The Display of valid nominations after scrutiny would be made at 10.00 AM on March 24, 2022, at IFFCO’s Head Office.

Receipt of objections at the IFFCO Sadan would be possible till 11.00 AM on March 24, 2022, and a display of valid nominations would be made at 1:00 PM on March 24, 2022. Withdrawal of candidature could be done up to 3.00 PM and a display of the final list of candidates would be made at 3.30 PM on March 24, 2022.

The election of Vice-Chairman would be held at 12.45 PM on the same day.
