JIFCO connection: Awasthi participates in Presidential banquet

IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi was perhaps the only leader from the cooperative sector to have been invited to Presidential banquet hosted by President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind in the honour of King Abdullah of Jordan Mr Al Hussein during his visit to India last week.

It bears recall that the fertilizer giant IFFCO has one of the successful overseas ventures in JIFCO which was inaugurated by then President of India Pranav Mukherjee and King Abdulla of Jordan in 2015.

Jordanian King Abdullah King Abdullah II, accompanied by a business delegation was received by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi breaking protocol. The two leaders had a fruitful meeting which smoothed the path for MoUs in 12 areas of cooperation being signed between the two countries. Condemning terrorism the two leaders vowed to work together in the field of defense and cyber security.

Later King Abdullah II was invited to President House where he met President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu along with Prime Minister and his senior cabinet colleagues. Awasthi was present in this meeting, among others.

Tweeting about the meeting Awasthi wrote “Happy to share some moments of togetherness of two nations in a banquet hosted by Hon’ble #PresidentKovind Ji @rashtrapatibhvn in honour of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of #Jordan at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday. #JordanKingInIndia #IFFCO #JIFCO.”

Awasthi also said that the success of JIFCO is a living example of a thriving relationship between the two countries. “It is helping in good bilateral trade between the two nations; it is also one of the strongest technical Joint Ventures in Jordan by IFFCO”, he underlined.

Consistently doing well, even this February JIFCO has crossed over and completed more than 100% monthly production target, Awasthi said in one of his tweets.

IFFCO and Jordan Phosphates Mines Company Ltd (JPMC) had formed a JV in 2008 where IFFCO and its affiliates hold 52 % equity, while JPMC holds 48 % equity. The plant counts the largest producer of phosphoric acid complex in the world.

Meanwhile, welcoming the King to India, the President Shri Ram Nath Kovind said there is much scope for further enhancement in trade and investment between India and Jordan.
