IFFCO pays homage to Balram Jakhar

The leading farmers’ cooperative IFFCO has paid homage to former Lok Sabha speaker Balram Jakhar by calling him a great human being, a true leader and a parliamentarian par excellence. Jakhar passed away Wednesday morning.

Expressing his feelings Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted “ #IFFCO is saddened by demise of great human, leader & parliamentarian Shri #BalramJakharJi. May God Rest his Soul in Peace.”

IFFCO related to Balram Jakhar in a personal way as one of his sons Surender Jakhar was Chairman of IFFCO earlier. Surender also represented IFFCO on the board of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA). Referring to his cooperative connection Dr. U S Awasthi said “ Shri #BalramJakhar ji was a great cooperative supporter, visionary. Worked at grass roots level 4 #farmers. Always remembered. “

Jakhar served as speaker of Lok Sabha from 1980 to 1989. He served as Agriculture Minister in the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. Jakhar was also Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

Jakhar was a four-time MP in Lok Sabha. Highlighting his contributions IFFCO MD tweeted “ Shri #BalramJakhar ji was a great agriculture minister, initiated several reforms 4 farmers. contributed a lot to #agriculture, #horticulture.”

The body of the late leader was taken to Abohar in Punjab where his cremation is scheduled to take place today on Thursday.
