IFFCO-MC rolls out generic agrochemicals from Wednesday

“I thank & congratulate Shri #BalvinderNakai Chairman & board members of #IFFCO #Masakazu Sakakida #Mitsubishi Corp 4 successful product launch”, tweeted IFFCO MD Dr US Awasthi after the successful launch of IFFCO-MC products.

IFFCO-MC, a newly-formed joint venture (JV) between farmers Cooperative Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) and Japanese company Mitsubishi Corporation, Wednesday rolled out 18 products in its Headquarters at Saket in New Delhi.

On this occasion, IFFCO Managing Director Dr Uday Shankar Awasthi said our main objective is to save farmers’ crops and not to earn profits. 25 to 30 percent crops get destroyed due to poor quality pesticides in the country and this in many cases forces farmers to commit suicides, he said.

Some private companies are exploiting farmers by providing bad quality pesticides. It is in this context that we have formed a joint venture with Mitsubishi to manufacture quality pesticides, he said.

IFFCO MD told the audience that by the next financial year, the fertilizer cooperative is trying to make these products available through its 25,000 cooperatives across India. We will provide new products at a reasonable rate to our farmers, Dr Awasthi claimed. About 18 products were rolled out with an aim to achieve Rs 130 crore turnover by March 2017.

The fertiliser cooperative has plans to make these products initially available in 10 states, including Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat. Awasthi cautioned farmers against using excessive amount of Urea as this destroys the soil.

Speaking on the occasion IFFCO Chairman B.S.Nakia said IFFCO- Mitsubishi is going to take care of farmers and provide them high quality pesticides, herbicides and fungicides at reasonable rates. Mitsubishi and IFFCO will work together to make this successful, he said.

At the launch Mitsubishi Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Masakazu Sakakida said It is just a beginning, we have a long way to go but we will achieve our goal working together, he noted.
