IFFCO has expressed its determination to fight poverty in its own way by engaging with farmers. Primarily an agrarian economy, India could steer a course away from poverty by strengthening the financial situation of farmers, feels its MD Dr U S Awasthi.

Readers would note that nearly half the world’s population lives on less than Rs 163 a day. More than 1.3 billion are in extreme poverty living on less than Rs 82 a day.

Keeping track of the world calendar IFFCO MD tweeted on international day to eradicate poverty ”Today is international day to eradicate poverty #IFFCO will keep on working with farmers to eradicate their poverty.”

A slew of cooperators Indian Cooperative talked to mention the role of cooperatives in fighting poverty head on. Readers would know that India was home to the largest number of poor in 2012, but its poverty rate is one of the lowest among the countries with the largest number of poor, according to World Bank report.

Dr Dinesh Chief Executive of NCUI thinks that in a situation of fewer resources and more people, organizing the two in a cooperative way holds the key. The model does not benefit a few at the cost of many, he asserted.
