IFA: IFFCO’s Jt MD Kapur claims top job

Joint Managing Director of IFFCO Rakesh Kapur has been elected as the chairman of International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) headquartered in Paris. He is the 3rd Indian to have had this honor after IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi.

It bears recall that earlier Kapur was elected as the vice chairman of the International body in 2015.

A jubilant Managing Director of IFFCO shared the news through social media and wrote “Extremely happy to share that #RakeshKapur @KapurRakesh, Jt.MD #IFFCO elected as chairman #IFA in #IFA2017 #marrakech. Proud #50yearsofIFFCO”.

In another tweet he wrote “Congratulations @KapurRakesh for becoming chairman #IFA. 3rd Indian to reach here. Globally lead the voice of 50million farmers of country”.

Besides Awasthi, several others greeted Kapur on social media and P V Naryana wrote on twitter  “Respected sirs, IFFCO as well as nation feels proud that second legendary person from IFFCO has become the president of IFA”.

The IFA is an international body connected to the fertilizer sector having about 500 Members Worldwide representing 68 countries including 24 Members from India.

IFA has been actively involved in propagating sustainable agriculture, fertiliser use efficiency, enhancing farm productivity apart from its active participation in the implementation of United Nations Sustainable  Development Goals (SDGs) such as ‘Zero Hunger’ as well as environmental issues.

IFA has wide level of engagement with International Initiatives and entities such as UNEP, FAO, OECD, IFAD, World Bank, WTO, WCO etc. for emphasizing the need for effective and efficient fertilizer application.

Kapur is also the Chairman, Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) as well as Jt. Managing Director, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative. (IFFCO). He is an ex-IRS Officer who has been with the IFFCO for the last 15 years.

An expert in financial planning who works in close cooperation with the IFFCO MD, Kapur is credited with ensuring sound auditing and accounting standards for the cooperative behemoth. Getting  IFFCO’s accounts audited always on time by mid-April is  no mean feat but MD Kapoor pulls it off, said an IFFCO employee.
