Congratulating his followers on the International Day of Cooperatives IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi tweeted that there is a need to further strengthen the cooperative movement so that the farmers of the country are empowered.
Awasthi felt that a strong cooperative movement can strengthen the economy as well as the country. Readers would recall that International Day of Cooperatives is celebrated by International Cooperative Alliance and United Nations on 1st Saturday of every year in the month of July.
One of the IFFCO MD followers who is also on the Board, Pramod Kumar Singh replied to Awasthi with the tweet” Congratulation to all cooperators on international cooperative day Dr U S Awasthi is true cooperator.”
At the international level, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon spoke on this occasion in New York and said Cooperatives will play an “invaluable role” in the international community’s roll-out of sustainable development goals.
“Inequality is a fundamental obstacle to development, depriving people of basic services and opportunities to build better lives for themselves and their children,” the Secretary-General declared in his message for the Day, which is on the theme ‘Choose Cooperative’s, Choose Equality.’
“The cooperative model helps meet this challenge. Cooperatives strive to uphold the principles of equality and democratic participation,” said Mr. Ban.
