ICA DG Charles Gould in town

Charles Gould, the Director General of International Cooperative Alliance ICA has arrived in N Delhi on a short trip. His visit is primarily aimed at taking stock of the affairs of the Regional office of the ICA A-P. The ICA Regional office has a new RD in Mr Balu Iyer who took over a couple of months ago.

Mr Gould would also address a cooperative gathering on Monday in N Delhi. He would deliver the Vaikunthbhai Mehta Memorial Lecture in the Auditorium of the apex cooperative body in New Delhi.

Gould would be speaking on “Cooperatives: Global Perspectives and Road Ahead”, a release from NCUI informed. The lecture, 17th in the series, will be useful in understanding the dynamics of cooperative development, the relevance of cooperative model and its linkages with other sectors, it added.

Shri Vaikunth Bhai Mehta, the doyen of the Indian Cooperative Movement passionately advocated the cooperative ideology throughout his life. He had been a pioneer in the field of cooperative education and training.

In recognition of his services, the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) has instituted the Vaikunth Bhai Mehta Memorial Lecture which is held every year since its inception.

There have been murmurs of disapproval on Goud being selected for the lecture in some sections , many cooperators feel a cooperative leader rather than a cooperative official would have been a better choice.
