In a significant boost to the cooperative banking sector in Uttar Pradesh, employees of 14 District Cooperative Banks (DCBs) will receive a long-awaited salary increase following the approval of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Welcoming the decision, Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Minister J. P. S. Rathore expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and extended congratulations to all employees who will benefit from the revised pay structure.
In a social media post, Rathore said the decision was in line with the Chief Minister’s vision of ensuring that modern banking facilities reach every citizen of the state. He noted that strengthening cooperative banks is essential for expanding financial inclusion, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where these institutions continue to play a pivotal role.
District Cooperative Banks form the backbone of the cooperative credit structure in Uttar Pradesh. Working in close coordination with Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), they provide crop loans, agricultural finance, deposit services and other banking facilities to farmers and rural households. Over the years, these banks have also expanded their digital banking infrastructure, helping bridge the gap between rural communities and formal financial services.
The salary revision assumes significance as cooperative bank employees had been seeking an improvement in pay scales and service conditions for several years. Employee representatives had argued that better compensation was necessary to keep pace with increasing responsibilities, technological upgrades and the growing expectations of customers.
The latest decision is expected to improve employee morale and productivity while enhancing the ability of cooperative banks to attract and retain qualified personnel.
The Uttar Pradesh government has in recent years placed considerable emphasis on revitalising the cooperative sector through computerisation, strengthening PACS, expanding credit delivery and improving governance standards.
The state has also been actively supporting national initiatives aimed at making cooperatives more efficient, transparent and professionally managed.
Officials believe that a motivated workforce is critical to achieving these objectives. With the salary hike now approved, employees of the 14 District Cooperative Banks are expected to receive a major financial benefit, while the cooperative banking network stands to gain from improved staff satisfaction and service delivery.
The decision has been widely welcomed within cooperative circles and is being viewed as another step towards strengthening the rural financial ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.
