Tomar meets Sahakar Bharati leaders; RSS body to play crucial role again

While cooperators are struggling to get appointment for meeting the Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, the top brass of RSS body Sahakar Bharati received an invitation from the minister himself to come for a luncheon meeting last week in Delhi.

And with this, it became clear that Sahakar Bharati is going to play a crucial role in furthering the co-op movement once again in the new dispensation, commented an observer.

The meeting lasted for long two hours in which the nitty gritty of co-op movement were discussed by the Sahakar Bharati leaders. New to the idea of cooperative, Tomar heard the leaders out patiently and promised to take up the thread from where former union minister Radha Mohan had left.

Talking to Indian Cooperative Uday Vasudeo Joshi, the national secretary of Sahakar Bharati said that a few points raised before the minister included need to have a pan-India uniform co-operative legislation, emphasis on ease of doing business in cooperative organizations and of course, the issue of NCCT.

“The creation of NCCT with an aim to offer world class co-operative training has got entangled in court cases and we requested the Minister to defend the case strongly”, underlined Uday Joshi.

Highly satisfied with the Minister’s response, Joshi said that the Sahakar Bharati team would meet the minster again in mid-June and would hand over a note on works pending since long in the sector. “MPs would be mostly busy taking oath in mid-June and the minister would be able spare time’, guessed Joshi. Besides, the Minister himself has asked for a written note, he stated.

The Sahakar Bharati team did not come prepared as they had earlier planned to meet the minister after he somewhat settles down in his new job. “But as soon as we came from Pune after attending a co-op conference there was this phone from the minister asking me and Satish Maratheji to meet him on Tuesday on lunch; there was no time to prepare a note”, Joshi explained giving details of how the meeting took place.

Those who went for meeting included Satish Marathe, Uday Vasudeo Joshi, Dinesh Kulkarni, Laxmi Gupta, among others. Minister of state Kailash Choudhary was also present in the meeting.
