TN: Chairman of co-op society arrested

HANDCUFFTamil Nadu which saw no election in cooperatives for close to 30 years is in news for all the wrong reasons. The daily Hindu reported arrest of a chairman of a cooperative society in Valliyoor district of the state.

The Valliyoor police have arrested the chairman of Radhapuram and Nanguneri Agriculturists’ Cooperative Society for issuing death threat to a person from Valliyoor, reports the daily.

Police said Kannan purchased a building adjacent to his house recently and earned the enmity of V. Murugan alias ‘Bullet’ Murugan who is the chairman of Radhapuram and Nanguneri Agriculturists Cooperative Society.

The Chairman was also in race to buy the property and was making all-out efforts to buy the building. As Murugan’s efforts failed, he issued a death threat to Mr. Kannan.

Based on a complaint from Mr. Kannan, the Valliyoor police arrested Murugan.
