Leaders of the Urban Cooperative Banking (UCB) sector in Telangana have lauded the Reserve Bank of India’s Hyderabad Regional Office for its constructive, proactive and supportive role in strengthening cooperative banking in the state.
The appreciation was expressed during an interaction with RBI Central Board Director Shri Satish K. Marathe, attended by Chairmen and CEOs of Telangana’s UCBs.
Representatives of the Telangana State Co-operative Urban Banks Federation said consistent guidance, close supervisory engagement and timely interventions by RBI Hyderabad have played a critical role in the healthy expansion and stabilisation of UCBs.
They pointed out that the number of UCB branches in the state rose from 220 in 2023 to 351 by September 2025, reflecting the addition of 121 branches alongside steady growth in deposits and advances.
The Federation particularly appreciated the Department of Supervision, RBI Hyderabad, for its SSM-led, structured and risk-based supervisory framework. This approach, they said, enabled early risk identification, prompt resolution of issues and continuous engagement with bank management.
As a result, Telangana currently has zero UCBs under AID, SAF, PCA, PIC or with negative net worth. All 12 long-pending SAF cases have been resolved, while three voluntary amalgamations were completed smoothly without operational disruption, reinforcing depositor confidence.
Leaders also acknowledged RBI Hyderabad’s support in supplying fresh currency during Dussehra and Deepavali, ensuring distribution through UCBs even in remote areas and ATM loading across the state. ATMs increased from 240 in March 2023 to 287 by September 2025, while Cash Deposit Machines rose sharply from 23 to 73.
Additionally, six specialised training programmes for UCB cash staff on soiled note exchange and counterfeit detection were conducted with support from the RBI Issue Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri G. Madana Gopala Swamy, Working President of the Federation, said the sector’s progress reflected coordinated efforts between UCBs, the Federation and multiple departments of RBI Hyderabad. Shri Marathe, during his address, outlined key regulatory developments and the future roadmap for urban cooperative banks.
