Beginning last Friday Sahakar Bharati held three day function including the meeting of its National Executive Committee in Patna, with the concluding session being addressed by Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Sunday.
The choice of Patna was made keeping in mind the need to strengthen the activities of Sahakar Bharati in the state, said Jyotindra Mehta, National President. By his own admission its Patron Satish Marathe had said earlier that the RSS leaning co-op body is not strong enough yet in the state.
Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh who is held as a strong RSS votary found time to be present in its concluding session which was held in D N Singh Sansthan, an ICM and a part of NCUI.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh lauded the role of cooperative in alleviating poverty and said NCDC is active
Singh listed various initiatives such as construction of godowns, rice mills, production of vermin compost and strengthening women’s cooperative groups for vegetable cultivation in the state.
”The 3 day programme consisted of several sessions and we deliberated on how to strengthen the cooperative movement in the state” said Jyotindra Mehta on the phone to Indian Cooperative.
Agro Processing, state of affairs in District Central Co-operative Banks, Capacity Building & Training, status of credit co-ops were some of the topics debated in the sessions, wrote Satish Marathe on social media.
The sessions also focused on RBI’s policies towards UCBs and setting up of Umbrella Organisation for urban co-operative banks.
Promotion and establishment of Primary Milk Co-operatives particularly in N E States, setting up of at least 100 new Co-op Milk Processing Units, Issuance of Kisan Credit Cards to Fishermen and Weavers associated with co-ops were discussed at length in the meeting, wrote Marathe.
A resolution asking Nitish govt to modernize state Co-op Acts and make them consistent with the changing times was also passed in the meeting. It also asked for adoption of Policy for promotion of Co-operatives in the state.
More than 200 delegates from across the states participated in the three-day national conference.
