SHGs: Demand for loan at 2 percent

M.N. Rajendra Kumar president of South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank has called upon the Karnataka govt. to provode self-help groups with loans at a paltry rate of 2 percent. It is worth a mention that the self-groups are being promoted by cooperative societies and banks in a big way in the state.

Mr. Rajendra Kumar urged the govt. to credit its financial help straight into the accounts of SHG members as this would make them aware of various govt. schemes.

The SCDCCB chief also appealed to the govt. to pay money without delay to the cooperatives for schemes such as loan waiver and interest subsidy. The delayed payment would send the cooperative institutions into a tailspin, Mr. Kumar warned.

Talking to journalists the other day, Mr. Kumar could not help reminding the Congress govt. about a promise it had made in its election manifesto to help the self-help groups in the state.
