Sahakar Bharati organized an informal get together last week in Delhi, in which several cooperative leaders were present. The event was aimed at encouraging closer interactions among co-operators as well as the send-off function for the NCDC Ex MD Sundeep Nayak.

Talking to the Indian Cooperative just before the event, Sahakar Bharati President D N Thakur said that cooperation among cooperatives is one of the guiding principles of ICA, which has been repeated several times by the incumbent Cooperation Minister Amit Shah as well. The move is not a one-time affair as Sahakar Bharati has taken up itself to organize such meetings frequently, added Thakur.

The glittering function also gave a warm send off to Sundeep Nayak on his superannuation at Constitution Club, New Delhi on Friday evening. The event was attended by the who’s who of the cooperative sector.

Nayak is an IAS officer and had played a stellar role during his stint as the Managing Director of Cooperative Lender NCDC. He retired as the Director General of National Productivity Council.

The co-operators present on this occasion extended warm wishes to Nayak for future endeavours. On the sidelines of the event, co-operators also shared their views on the ongoing developments in the cooperative sector and future goals to achieve the Prime Minister’s mantra of “Sahakar Se Samriddhi”.

In his address, Sahakar Bharati President DN Thakur highlighted several initiatives of the Sahakar Bharati in strengthening the cooperative movement of the country. “We are active in most of the districts in the country and we are eager to collaborate with other co-operative organizations for bringing cooperation among cooperatives”, said Thakur.

“We have decided to hold a get-together at least every three month, with an aim to deliberate on several subjects related to the cooperative movement. It’s just a beginning, we have to cover a long distance”, the Sahakar Bharati President said.

Extending warm greetings to Nayak for future endeavours, NCUI president Sanghani reiterated his organization’s commitment to strengthen the rural economy of the country through the cooperative movement.

“NCUI is making efforts in creating awareness about co-ops among the rural population and organizing various programs in different parts of the country. Under the leadership of the Union Cooperation Minister, the Ministry of Cooperation took several initiatives, whether it is strengthening PACS societies or fulfilling the long pending demands of the co-op sector”, Sanghani said.

ICA-AP President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav emphasized on strengthening the cooperative movement. “The cooperative movement has a strong presence at the grassroots level and through this, various schemes of government can be successfully implemented”, he said.

In his remarks, IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi focused on reducing the use of chemical fertilizer and sought support of Sahakar Bharati in this connection.

RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe stressed on policy makers and decision makers engaging with the cooperative sector and promoting co-ops to undertake the work of agro processing, which is key for rural prosperity.

In his remarks on the occasion, Nayak said “For many years, NCDC’s net NPA has been Zero and it is because of co-operatives. Co-ops can come forward to tackle climate change. Besides, the Co-op sector should focus on productivity and enhance it with the use of modern tools”, Nayak asserted.

Nafed Chairman Bjendra Singh, Sahakar Bharati National Organizing Secretary Sanjay Pachpor, Mudit Verma, Amit Shah’s OSD in Cooperation Minister K K Tripathy, PS to MoS (Cooperation) Satyendra Nayak, Rajasthan BJP President CP Joshi PA Rajesh Jha and others were present on the occasion. BJP National Sangathak V Satish was also present.
