Primary Coop banks will have 1,118 godowns in TN

Tamil Nadu government today said it would construct 1166 grain godowns across the state with a capacity of 1,55,300 metric tonnes with funds from NABARD’s Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.

These godowns would be constructed at a total cost of Rs 105.47 crore, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said in a statement in the assembly.

Primary Agriculture Co operative banks will have 1,118 godowns with a total capacity of 100 tons, while agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Societies would have 21

godowns with a capacity of 500 tons each.

Another 21 godowns would have a capacity of 1,000 tons each and six would be of 2000 tonnes each.

This will help in additional storage capacity of 1,55,300 metric tonnes and thus help in reducing grain loss, while enabling farmers get additional income of Rs 26.40 crore, she

said.

Tamil Nadu presently has total grain storage capacity of eight lakh tonnes, the Chief Minister said.
