Parties gear up for co-op polls in Odisha

Naveen-Patnaik_01Now that the polls to about 10 thousand cooperative bodies in Odisha have finally been announced by the govt for 18 and 25 January next year, all political parties in the state including the ruling party BJD have begun making preparations for the elections.

Speaking before a workshop organised by the BJD , chief minister Navin Patnaik urged his party men to work for the party’s success in the forthcoming cooperative elections. Mr. Patnaik also explained to his party men the intricacies of the working of cooperative organizations. A vibrant and effective cooperative movement is crucial to the development of Odisha , Mr. Patnaik underscored.

The BJD workshop had detailed discussions about the cooperative laws and the ways of fighting the cooperative elections.The party has already formed a 12 member coordination committee to oversee the preparations for the elections. Several important BJD leaders compose the committee.

Sources say BJP and Congress have also swung into action preparing for the cooperative polls.
