In a major administrative overhaul, the apex body of cooperatives — NCUI has dispensed with the services of contractual staff drawing a remuneration of more than Rs 50,000, with immediate effect from April 7, 2025.
This development follows the recent board meeting of the NCUI Governing Council held in Sikkim, which proved to be consequential not just for contractual employees but also for permanent staff. Several departments witnessed a reshuffle in leadership roles.
Giving details of the decision, NCUI President Dileep Sanghani informed Indian Cooperative that his (President) office received some complaints of fund mismanagement in some of newly launched initiatives and thus we decided to first dispense with services of contractual officers and later see how the projects they were handling could be reorganized without hampering the interest of the NCUI.
Administrative reshuffle and dispensing with the services of highly paid contractual workers are the immediate steps we have taken, carrying out third party audit to uncover the whole truth will follow soon, informed Sanghani.
Sanghani said that before issuing them notice he ensured that the contract terms allow NCUI to end their services without assigning any reasons. This clause came handy to us, said the NCUI President, who sounded determined to cleanse the system.
According to a highly placed source, NCUI President Dileep Sanghani brought up the matter without prior notice to anyone, thereby ensuring that his decision couldn’t be challenged or diluted. Some Governing Council members later admitted that when the President is this resolute—and possibly in possession of sensitive information—his stance is nearly impossible to oppose.
It bears recall that some of the contractual workers are being paid as high a salary as Rs 2.5 lakh. Among those relieved of their duties are Sumit Kumar Singh, Sagar Kisan Wadkar, Shrija Sinha, Yashank Kalyani, Dr. V. K. Dubey, Ashutosh Gangwar, Sanjay Verma, and others. These individuals were serving in key roles such as advisor, research officer, and similar capacities.
As per the new administrative order, Executive Director Ashish Dwivedi will now oversee the Personnel Division; Smt. Sandhya Kapoor, Director, has been entrusted with the NCRC and CEAS Divisions; Deputy Director Hari Prakash will manage the Estate Division; Deputy Director Anurag Dang will head the Finance Division; and Executive Director Shri Ritesh Dey will look after the Board Division.
Meanwhile, sources indicate possible fund mismanagement within the organization amounts to nearly Rs 1.25 crore.
These developments mark a critical juncture for NCUI as it appears to be tightening internal controls and reassessing its administrative and financial policies.
