National Cooperative Union of India, through its National Centre for Cooperative Education (NCCE), has successfully concluded a three-day Leadership Development Programme (LDP) for Chairpersons and Directors of Labour Cooperatives, marking a significant step in strengthening the cooperative education ecosystem.

The programme, organised in collaboration with Bankers Institute of Rural Development in Lucknow, was held from March 16 to 18, 2026. It brought together cooperative leaders from across the country to enhance leadership capabilities and address key operational challenges faced by labour cooperatives.

The concluding day focused on critical themes such as livelihood enhancement, efficient resource management, digitalisation, and the adoption of information technology to drive growth in labour cooperatives. Participants were exposed to practical strategies aimed at improving productivity and ensuring sustainability in a competitive environment.

An important session was led by Anant Dubey, who highlighted recent developments in the cooperative sector. He elaborated on the proposed New Cooperative Policy and amendments to the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, and their potential impact on governance, transparency, and the functioning of cooperatives.

The valedictory session was attended by Rohit Gupta of National Cooperative Development Corporation, along with V. K. Chouhan, Managing Director of Labour Federation, and Rajiv Sharma.

Addressing participants, Gupta emphasised the transformative role of cooperatives in India’s socio-economic development. He noted that the creation of the Ministry of Cooperation has provided renewed policy thrust and institutional support to the cooperative movement.

Participants actively engaged in discussions, raising concerns related to operational bottlenecks, access to finance, and market linkages. Gupta assured them that these issues would be taken up with the Ministry and relevant authorities to find practical solutions. He also lauded NCUI’s continued efforts in organising capacity-building initiatives across sectors.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates, symbolising the successful completion of the training and reinforcing the commitment to empower labour cooperatives with leadership, knowledge, and modern tools.
