NCDC registers massive jump in co-op lending; Shah declares in House

Beating all its past records, the cooperative lender National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) disbursed loans worth Rs 34,221 crore during the 2021-22 financial year, which is higher in comparison to previous year. Earlier i.e. in 2020-21, NCDC had released Rs 24,733 crore for the welfare of cooperatives.

The input was shared by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah while giving reply to a query raised by a Lok Sabha member.

National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a statutory organization under the Ministry of Cooperation, provides financial assistance to the cooperative sector.

During the 2021-22 FY, the maximum loan was sanctioned to the state of Chhattisgarh i.e. Rs 16,901 crore and no loan was sanctioned to the states of Mizoram, Punjab and Tripura. The maximum disbursement during the year was in the state of Haryana i.e. Rs 12,827 crore and no disbursement was done for Sikkim.

In the 2020-21 FY, NCDC had sanctioned the highest amount of loans worth Rs 12,527 crore but no loan was sanctioned in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal. In the said FY, the highest loan was released for Chhattisgarh i.e. Rs 12,000 crore.

Besides, NCDC from 01 April 2022 to 14 December 2022 sanctioned and released loans worth Rs 68,215 crore and 19,679 crore respectively.

It undertakes various activities such as strengthening share capital base of primary/ District cooperatives, marketing societies, setting up of processing centres,storage facilities, establishing and modernizing cold chain, creation of cooperative banking units, agricultural services, Integrated Cooperative Development Projects, assistance for computerization of cooperatives, ‘Yuva-Sahkar’ for cooperative enterprise support and innovation, ‘Ayushman Sahkar’ covering healthcare sector, ‘Nandini Sahkar’ to support women cooperatives etc.
