The Union Ministry of Cooperation completed its two years of existence on Thursday (6th July 2023), sparking memories of cooperators who had waged a long struggle to have a separate Ministry for the cooperative sector. Several cooperators thanked the Prime Minister for the same on the occasion.
“Till Modi jee announced it, we never believed our demand would be ever fulfilled”, recalled NCUI President Dileep Sanghani thanking Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the first cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
“The icing on the cake was the appointment of Amitbhai as the Minister, a man known both for his vision and his dynamism”, stated Sanghani listing many new initiatives launched by Shah ever since he took over.
Things which we co-operators never dreamt such as approval of OTS for co-op banks by the RBI were achieved by constant efforts of Amit Shah and his Ministry, said Sanghani.
Meanwhile, the Ministry thanked all the cooperators across India for their support and cooperation through their official twitter handles.
“Today, the Ministry of Cooperation has Successfully Completed 2 Years of Moving toward the Realization of the Hon’ble PM, Shri @narendramodi’s Vision of #SahakarSeSamriddhi Under the able Guidance of the Hon’ble Union Home & Cooperation Minister, Shri @AmitShah”, the Ministry tweeted.
Extending his greetings on this occasion, Union Minister of State for Cooperation BL Verma tweeted, “Honorable PM @narendramodi Ji’s vision #prosperity through cooperation and under the able guidance of the Honorable Home and Country’s first Cooperation Minister Shri @AmitShah, Congratulations to Ministry of Cooperation for successfully completing two years and thanks to cooperators”.
Since its formation, the Ministry of Cooperation has taken more than 45 Initiatives in a period of 24 months.
The major initiatives included Strengthening PACS, Establishment of Multipurpose PACS, Dairy, fisheries cooperatives in every panchayat World’s largest decentralized Grain storage program in the cooperative sector, formation of new FPOs by PACS, Relief from Income Tax to Cooperative Sugar Mills, process to establish Cooperative University and others.
Others included are moves to amend MSCS Act with an aim to attune it to current times, a Panel formed under Suresh Prabhu to have new cooperative policy which could help co-ops make India a five trillion-dollar economy, etc.
